About us

The veg box delivery market is dominated by a very small number of very large operators with very expensive technology and huge marketing budgets. This makes running a small, local box scheme a challenging business. It’s hard work on tight margins.

A good online veg box store with the functionality to make customers really happy is complicated and expensive to build, outside of the biggest players, it doesn’t really exist. Automation and integration of farm and packing shed process is also beyond the reach of most box schemes.

We’re going to help change that.

Join our community and help us build a movement to make local growers the go-to choice in the market. We’ll help you compete on product range, convenience and price. We’ll help you offer customers a best-in-class shopping experience, ensuring that you attract more and keep them longer.

We’ll make market insights freely available and share ‘what good looks like’ across the veg box community, building and helping up-skill a powerful network of likeminded folk committed to the benefits of a local-first, seasonal retail model.

Putting the power back in the hands of our local farmers, growers and veg box operators.

It's personal.

Growing Good is a new venture based on an old idea shaped over years building and running a successful organic veg box scheme.

Our founding team have worked together for many years so we’re combining the excitement and ambition of a business in start-up mode, with the comfort and security of an experienced team familiar to one another.

While Renee and Michael are experts in their engineering, product and design specialisms, Steve, George and Martin each have 10yrs+ of direct veg-box experience combined with previous lives in business start-ups and big US software.

We’re proud of our early stage team and feel uniquely placed to build a platform to help shape the way we buy and sell local produce for years to come.

Meet the team

Steve

Founder & CEO

Originally from rural Lincolnshire and having worked on a farm growing up, Steve was educated at the University of Leeds before falling into a sales role in London. Quickly moving into management, at 27 Steve was part of a founding team of a private-equity backed recruitment start-up, chaired by a former BBC Dragon. On paper this went well, however the further his feet reached under the board table the less he enjoyed the company around it, and in late 2012 walked away in the hope of finding something more fulfilling.

Swapping a suit and a season ticket for a flat cap and a Landrover, Ten Mile Menu was born. A chance to combine experience of business start-ups and management with a passion for local food and farming. Fast forward to today and TMM now trades as Sandy Lane Farm and is a successful working partnership with George - having stepped away from running the retail business day to day in early 2022, Steve is now fully focussed on changing the way we shop local produce with Growing Good.

George

Founder & CPO

George really is a unique individual! For the last 10 years he has been running Sandy Lane Farm growing some of the best organic veg around. He’s hosted the team and given story-line inspiration for BBC’s The Archer’s, he’s recorded radio diaries for Radio 4’s Farming today and last year made the final 3 in the Soil Association’s BOOM Awards for ‘Best Organic Farm over 10 hectares’.

Not only is he quite the grower, he was educated at Durham (MEng Manufacturing Engineering) and before returning to the family farm spent 15 years working in the software industry, latterly for a US firm acquired by Cisco. It is this deep technical understanding that has played a key role in the development of our on-farm software solutions.

Renee

Founder & CTO

Award winning techie with 12 years full-stack development experience, spending the last 4 years before joining us as the Head of Tech at a leading South East agency where he worked with some of the biggest brands in E-commerce. He is using his expertise of modern technologies to deliver Growing Goods state of the art application.

Michael

Senior Engineer

Michael has 20 years experience in software engineering and has worked for a number of impressive businesses, from leading agencies to Apple in the US.

He's a talented engineer with a passion for our natural world. It's this strong alignment of personal values that has drawn Michael into using his expertise as a force for good as he helps build a state of the art product that will help transform our local food systems.

Martin

Customer & Project Lead

Martin spent 10 years as part of the leadership team at one of the most forward-thinking organic veg box schemes in the UK, leading the integration and launch of their current and previous software platforms.

Working with Martin bringing Growing Good to Barcombe Nurseries highlighted the talent he has for helping design and implement software to make veg box schemes work. There was a natural fit and we're delighted to have him join us to lead our user experience and customer-centric project work.
